Ensuring a Healthy Pregnancy and Childbirth
Preconception Health Screening
A Preconception Health Screening is essential for women about to start a family. To ensure a healthy pregnancy, it’s important to examine areas that may impact fertility and childbirth in advance. This proactive approach helps safeguard both your health and the health of your future children.
For optimal results, it’s best to get a Preconception Health Screening 2 to 6 months before Conception.
If any issues are discovered during the examination, immediate treatment is essential.

Importance of Preconception Health Screening
Before and after pregnancy
folic acid
Taking folic acid before and during early pregnancy is highly effective in preventing neural tube defects in the fetus.
It can prevent up to 72% of neural tube defects, such as anencephaly and spina bifida, when taken before conception and up to 12 weeks into pregnancy.
In 1992, U.S. health authorities recommended that women planning to become pregnant take 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid per day.
For women who have previously had a fetus with neural tube defects, a higher dose of 4,000 micrograms (4 mg) is recommended.

hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism can increase the risk of pregnancy-related issues such as preeclampsia, placental abruption, cardiac dysfunction, and low birth weight. Identifying and managing hypothyroidism before pregnancy can help prevent these complications.
diabetes
Diabetes can lead to pregnancy complications including pre-eclampsia, premature birth, stillbirth, and fetal abnormalities. Both mortality and morbidity rates are higher in pregnancies affected by unmanaged diabetes.
obesity
Obesity can cause several complications during pregnancy, including neural tube defects, kidney malformations, gestational diabetes, and fetal growth retardation. Managing weight before pregnancy can significantly reduce these risks.
